Verdicts & Settlements - Bicycle Accident Lawsuit

Lawsuit Brought by Bicyclists Injured after Collision with Car Settles for $185,000

One evening two young plaintiffs went shopping in Wall Township, New Jersey. While they were on their way home riding their bicycles east on the shoulder of Route 35 in Spring Lake Heights at approximately 7:30 p.m., they were struck in the rear by a green Jaguar that swerved off the road, crashing into a utility pole and ending up in the adjacent woods. Both plaintiffs were transported via ambulance to the Jersey Shore Medical Center. One plaintiff suffered a closed head injury, facial fractures and a concussion. The other suffered a severe broken wrist. Both men spent about a week in Jersey Shore Medical Center. Both cases settled for a total of $185,000 with one plaintiff receiving the defendant driver's $100,000 insurance limits. The Keefe Bartels & Clark lawyers were successful in resolving the cases in a little over a year and a half after the accident,"lighting speed" for a case of this type. This case underscores the importance of driver attention and safety with the increasing number of bicyclists and pedestrians on our roadways, particularly during the busy summer months in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
